New Delhi: A social media satire account called Cockroach Janata Party has gone viral after a controversy linked to remarks allegedly comparing unemployed youth to cockroaches.
The controversy began after a statement made by India’s Chief Justice reportedly triggered backlash online. Although clarification was later issued saying the comment was aimed at people with “fake degrees,” social media users, meme creators and political commentators continued to mock the episode.
The so-called “Cockroach Janata Party” is not a real political party registered with the Election Commission. Instead, it is a political satire handle created on X to comment on unemployment and Indian politics through humour and sarcasm.
In its bio, the account describes itself as a “youth political front” working “for the youth and by the youth.” Since the account appeared shortly after the controversy, it is widely being linked to the same debate.
The page has also drawn attention for its unusual membership criteria. According to the satire account, members should be unemployed, lazy and spend at least 11 hours a day online on social media platforms.
Despite its humorous tone, prominent leaders including Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad have reportedly followed the page, further boosting its visibility.
The account rapidly gained traction online, collecting thousands of followers within 24 hours. It now reportedly has more than 33,000 followers, whom the page jokingly refers to as “cockroaches.”
The viral handle has increasingly become a platform for online satire targeting unemployment, governance and political discourse in India.
