Chandigarh: Manpreet Singh Iyali has resigned from all posts in Shiromani Akali Dal Punr Surjeet, dealing a major setback to the party amid ongoing political developments in Punjab.
Iyali, who is the MLA from Dakha, was serving as the convener of the coordination committee formed between Shiromani Akali Dal Punr Surjeet and Waris Punjab De.
According to party sources, ideological differences between the two political groups prevented an alliance from materialising, following which both sides recently decided to part ways.
Iyali submitted his resignation on the same day when Arvind Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann and Manish Sisodia were visiting Ludhiana.
The development is being seen as a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
