Ludhiana: Political rivalry stemming from recent municipal council elections has reportedly led to a violent incident in Jagraon, where a local Congress leader was allegedly attacked and injured.

Police have registered a case against three individuals, including the son of a former councillor, following a complaint filed by Congress leader Ravinder Kumar Sabharwal, popularly known as Neeta Sabharwal.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred late on the night of June 1 when Sabharwal was travelling on his scooter through the Asmani Gali area to collect a payment from an individual.

Sabharwal alleged that he was stopped on the way by Mohit Sabharwal, the son of former councillor Feena Sabharwal, along with his cousin Shanu and another unidentified individual.

The complainant claimed that an argument broke out before the accused allegedly assaulted him. He alleged that the attackers knocked him to the ground and physically assaulted him, causing injuries.

Following the complaint, police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. Officials said statements are being recorded and evidence is being examined to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any arrests have been made. Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

The incident has drawn attention in the town, where political tensions have remained high following the recently concluded municipal elections.
