Tarn Taran: A minor dispute allegedly linked to children plucking corn from a field escalated into a violent confrontation in a village of Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, leaving three people seriously injured.
The incident occurred in Thathgarh village, where members of two local families reportedly became involved in a clash that witnesses described as highly violent. Sharp-edged weapons were allegedly used during the confrontation, while reports of gunfire have also emerged.
According to local residents, panic spread through the area as the clash unfolded. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while police teams reached the spot to bring the situation under control.
One of the injured, Shamsher Singh, alleged that the dispute began after children accidentally plucked a few corn cobs from a neighbouring field. He claimed that his family had apologised for the incident, but tensions between the two sides continued.
Shamsher Singh further alleged that despite the apology, members of the other family later confronted his relatives, leading to the violent altercation. He claimed that sharp weapons were used during the attack and that shots were fired, resulting in serious injuries.
Police officials confirmed that people from both groups sustained injuries during the clash and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhbir Singh said authorities were investigating all aspects of the incident. Statements from the injured will be recorded once doctors permit, following which appropriate legal action will be taken.
Police are also examining reports of gunfire and are working to determine whether any firearms were used during the confrontation and who may have been responsible.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure. Officials said the situation remains under control and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
