Chandigarh: Political activity ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections intensified on Tuesday as Aam Aadmi Party held an important state executive organisational meeting at Guru Nanak Bhawan in Ludhiana.
Senior AAP leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who attended the meeting, launched a sharp attack on the Centre and the Bharatiya Janata Party while speaking to the media.
Sisodia raised concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Punjab and alleged that the Centre was attempting to influence elections through the exercise.
He said the meeting was part of the party’s routine organisational activities, but the main focus this time was the SIR process.
According to Sisodia, the BJP earlier tried to influence elections through agencies such as the ED and CBI, and is now using voter list revision as another tool.
He alleged that fake votes had been created in the past while names of lakhs of genuine voters were removed from electoral rolls, depriving citizens of their constitutional right to vote.
Sisodia said AAP is committed to ensuring that not even a single voter in Punjab loses the right to cast a ballot.
Responding to BJP’s claim that the exercise is aimed at correcting duplicate voter entries, Sisodia accused the BJP of being “anti-Punjab.”
He alleged that the party has no genuine concern for Punjab and often engages in activities that go against the interests of the state.
