Parliament session sees sharp exchanges and lighter moments as PM Modi calls Akhilesh ‘friend’

New Delhi: The special Parliament session on the Women’s Reservation Bill witnessed a mix of sharp exchanges and lighter moments on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his speech, referred to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav as his “friend”, prompting laughter in the House. Akhilesh responded with folded hands and a smile.

During the debate, SP MP Dharmendra Yadav stood up and remarked that Modi comes from a backward community but does not focus enough on their concerns. In response, Modi said he was grateful for the introduction and acknowledged his background, adding humorously that Akhilesh, being his friend, sometimes helps him.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi took a dig at Union Home Minister Amit Shah while opposing the delimitation bill. She remarked that if ancient strategist Chanakya were alive today, he would be surprised by Shah’s political strategy. Shah was seen smiling at the comment.

The session, which included the introduction of amendments related to the Women’s Reservation Bill, saw both political sparring and moments of camaraderie across party lines.
