Punjab government reallocates Sanjeev Arora’s departments after ED arrest

Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Monday evening reassigned the departments held by arrested cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora to three other ministers in the Bhagwant Mann cabinet.

According to the official announcement, Tarunpreet Singh Sond has been given charge of the Power Department, while Harjot Singh Bains will now head the Local Government Department.

The Industries Department has been assigned to Aman Arora.

Departments reassigned after ED action

The reshuffle comes days after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at multiple locations linked to Sanjeev Arora and later arrested him following nearly 12 hours of questioning on Saturday.

After Arora’s arrest, the three major departments under his control — Local Government, Power and Industries — were left without a ministerial head.

Power department seen as crucial during summer season

Government sources said the departments could not be left vacant because of their administrative importance, especially during the peak summer season when key decisions related to electricity supply and management are required.

The Power Department, in particular, is considered highly significant due to rising electricity demand across the state during summer months.
