New Delhi: Keeping in view the heavy rush of passengers during the summer vacation season, the railway authorities have announced 16 new summer special trains on various routes connected to North India, especially Punjab.
According to senior railway officials, these special trains will begin operating in phases from May 21 to ensure passengers can travel to their destinations without inconvenience amid rising demand for tickets.
As per the schedule released by the railway administration, the special trains include Amritsar–Katihar (05736/05735), New Delhi–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (04081/04082), Amritsar–Barauni (04610/04609), Pathankot–Chhapra (05193/05194), Amritsar–Kolkata (04624/04623), Amritsar–Jaynagar (04651/04652), Firozpur Cantt–Jhanjharpur (04620/04619) and Firozpur Cantt–Patna (04616/04615).
These additional train services are expected to provide direct connectivity for migrant workers and general passengers travelling between Punjab and states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said the move would significantly reduce pressure on regular trains operating on these busy routes.
Railway authorities stated that passenger numbers increase sharply every summer, leading to long waiting lists on regular trains. The decision to run special trains has been taken to manage the seasonal rush and provide confirmed seats and a more comfortable travel experience to passengers.
Passengers have also been advised to check the latest timetable, routes and booking details before starting their journey through the official [Indian Railways website](https://indianrailways.gov.in?utm_source=chatgpt.com), [IRCTC](https://www.irctc.co.in?utm_source=chatgpt.com) app or Railway helpline number 139 to avoid inconvenience at stations.
