Trump rejects Iran’s peace proposal amid ongoing conflict and oil route tensions

Washington: US President Donald Trump has rejected a peace proposal reportedly sent by Iran aimed at ending the months-long conflict, calling the offer “totally unacceptable”.

Although Trump did not reveal details of the proposal, his strong response has dealt a setback to hopes of easing tensions surrounding a key global oil shipping route affected by the conflict.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I have read the response from Iran’s so-called representatives. I did not like it at all. It is totally unacceptable.”

He also accused Tehran of “playing games” with the United States for decades and warned that such actions would no longer be tolerated.

Republican senator urges military response

Meanwhile, senior Republican senator Lindsey Graham urged Trump to consider military action against Iran.

Graham argued that repeated attacks on international shipping and what he described as an unreasonable response to American diplomatic proposals indicated that a tougher approach was now necessary.

He also advocated restarting a naval operation similar to “Project Freedom Plus” to secure maritime routes and counter regional threats.

Conflict affecting global oil supply

The conflict, which reportedly began on February 28, has significantly disrupted global oil supplies and triggered fuel shortages in several countries.

The United States is demanding that Iran completely shut down its uranium enrichment programme. In return, Washington had reportedly discussed easing sanctions and releasing frozen Iranian funds as part of broader negotiations.

The latest exchange has further heightened concerns over regional stability, energy security and the possibility of wider military escalation in the Middle East.
