Special Intensive Revision of Voter Lists to Be Conducted with Full Transparency: Viraj S. Tirke

DC Viraj S. Tirke Malerkotla

BLOs to Conduct Door-to-Door Verification from June 25 to July 24
Malerkotla News (May 15): Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Viraj S. Tirke stated that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Punjab will be carried out with complete transparency and fairness as per the notification issued by the Election Commission of India.

Addressing journalists at the Deputy Commissioner’s office meeting hall, he informed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households from June 25 to July 24, 2026, to assist voters in filling out the required forms under the SIR process.

For this extensive exercise, the district administration has deployed:

400 BLOs

40 Supervisors

2 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)

2 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs)
along with additional election staff.

Each BLO has been assigned around 300 households and nearly 1,200 voters for the revision process. Special training will also be imparted to ensure the work is completed smoothly and efficiently.

The Deputy Commissioner further informed that rationalisation of polling stations across the district will also be completed by July 24, 2026.

He said the Election Commission’s primary objective is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the voter list while removing ineligible names. He warned that possessing duplicate voter registrations is a punishable offence under Indian law and may attract imprisonment.

Appealing to the public, he urged all voters to cooperate fully with BLOs and provide the required information on time during the revision drive.

Viraj S. Tirke clarified that all voters in the state will have to fill the SIR form, and BLOs will contact households three times to ensure that no eligible voter is left out. He also stated that the Aadhaar card will be treated only as a proof of identity, and not as proof of citizenship or residence.

Sharing district-wise progress, he said that under the pre-SIR mapping exercise, out of 3,24,201 voters in Malerkotla district, mapping of 2,88,658 voters has already been completed, accounting for 89.04% coverage. Rural areas have achieved 91.76% mapping, while urban areas have recorded around 84.83% coverage.

He further informed that the draft voter list will be published on July 31, 2026. Claims and objections can be submitted between July 31 and August 30, 2026, while the final electoral roll will be released on October 1, 2026.

During the press interaction, he also appealed to political parties to appoint their Block Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure the smooth completion of the process. He urged voters and political parties alike to extend full cooperation so that electoral rolls can be made more accurate and transparent.
