Farmers’ protest: Police open Singhu, Tikri borders after postponement of ‘Delhi march’

New Delhi: In light of the farmers’ ‘Delhi March’, Delhi’s Singhu and Tikri borders were sealed by the police, and movement on both borders was restricted. However, on Saturday, the Delhi Police reopened both borders, allowing partial movement.

This decision was made after the farmers postponed the ‘Delhi March’ until February 29th. Thousands of farmers are currently camped at Khanauri and Shambhu borders with tractor-trolleys and trucks, advocating for various demands, including a legal guarantee of MSP for crops and farm loan waivers.

Farmer leaders stated on Friday that they would decide on February 29th about the next course of action regarding their ‘Delhi Chalo’ agitation. They also announced plans for a candle march on Saturday and the burning of the effigy of the Centre two days later.

The ‘Delhi Chalo’ agitation had been called off for two days by farmer leaders on Wednesday after a protester was killed and around 12 police personnel were injured in a clash in Khanauri. This incident occurred when the farmers attempted to advance by breaking the barricades.
