Tel Aviv: Israel and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire following a 12-day conflict that saw heavy airstrikes and rising casualties. The truce, brokered by US President Donald Trump, comes after a deadly escalation on Tuesday morning when Iranian airstrikes targeted Israel, killing four people. In retaliation, Israel launched strikes on Iranian targets.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the agreement, saying Israel had coordinated the ceasefire terms with President Trump. He warned that Israel would respond forcefully to any violations of the truce.

Speaking to Israel’s Central Committee on Security late Monday, Netanyahu said the country had achieved all of its combat objectives. These included strikes on Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, damage to its military leadership, and attacks on several government sites.

Netanyahu also claimed that Israeli forces had gained control of Tehran’s airspace during the operation.
