Sukhpal Khaira condemns removal of ‘Satluj’ from ZEE5, seeks immediate restoration

Chandigarh: Punjab Congress leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has strongly condemned the removal of the film Satluj from the ZEE5 platform in India, calling it an attempt to suppress the truth.

The film, starring Diljit Dosanjh, is based on the life of human rights activist Prof. Jaswant Singh Khalra and portrays the events surrounding his 1995 abduction and killing. Khaira said the facts depicted in the film have already been upheld by the Supreme Court, which convicted the police officers involved in the case.

Condemning the move, Khaira said the film was based on verified facts and questioned why it had been taken down shortly after its release.

“I strongly condemn the removal of Satluj. This film is based on true facts validated by the Hon’ble Supreme Court. I am saddened that the same police state continues to operate unabashedly in Punjab under the Bhagwant Mann government,” Khaira said in a statement.

The Congress MLA urged the Government of India to ensure the film is restored on ZEE5 at the earliest so that people can access the story.

“Suppressing such important narratives only raises more questions,” he added.

Satluj, which was released after years of delays and controversy, has remained at the centre of public and political debate since it was removed from the OTT platform just days after becoming available to viewers in India.
