Chandigarh: A police team responding to a domestic violence complaint was allegedly attacked by an intoxicated man in Sohal village of Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, leaving an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a constable injured.
The accused, identified as Prabhjit Singh, allegedly assaulted the officers after they reached his residence to resolve a family dispute. He later fled the spot before additional police personnel arrived.
According to police, the incident came to light after Prabhjit Singh’s daughter, Simran, lodged an online complaint alleging that her father was under the influence of alcohol, abusing family members and had locked them inside a room.
Acting on the complaint, SHO Baljinder Singh Bajwa of Jhabbal police station dispatched a team led by ASI Pragat Singh to the house.
Police said that upon reaching the spot, the team found the accused allegedly assaulting his family members. When officers attempted to intervene, Prabhjit Singh allegedly attacked the police personnel.
During the assault, ASI Pragat Singh sustained injuries, his uniform was torn and his turban was knocked off. Constable Kuldeep Singh also suffered injuries, including a fractured finger.
Senior police officers, including DSP Sukhbir Singh, SHO Baljinder Singh Bajwa and Sub-Inspector Karandeep, rushed to the scene after receiving information. However, the accused had already fled.
Based on the statement of ASI Pragat Singh, police have registered a case against the accused. SSP Surinder Lamba said multiple teams have been formed to arrest Prabhjit Singh, while CCTV footage from the area is also being examined as part of the investigation.
