New Delhi: Post offices across the country will begin accepting digital payments at counters starting August 2025, following the full implementation of a new application in their IT system.

Until now, post offices could not accept digital payments as their accounts were not linked to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system.

An official said the Department of Posts is upgrading its IT infrastructure with new applications capable of transacting via dynamic QR codes. The nationwide rollout is expected to be completed by August 2025.

The new system, known as IT 2.0, has already been launched in the Karnataka circle. QR-based mail product bookings have been successfully carried out in post offices under the Mysore and Bagalkot head offices.

Previously, the Department had introduced static QR codes at post office counters to enable digital transactions. However, this system was discontinued due to ongoing technical issues and customer complaints.
