New Delhi: The Centre on Monday informed the Supreme Court that it is making all efforts to save an Indian nurse who is scheduled to be hanged on July 16 on charges of murder in Yemen. However, the government said there is little it can do given the situation in the conflict-hit country.
Attorney General R. Venkataramani told a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta that “the Government of India can go to an extent and we have reached that extent.”
He said the government is concerned about protecting its citizens and is doing everything possible in the matter.
Given the sensitivity and prevailing situation in Yemen, there is not much more the Indian government can do, the top law officer added.
