AAP condemns Ravneet Bittu’s ‘misconduct’ during Sangrur civic poll controversy

Chandigarh: The Punjab unit of the Aam Aadmi Party has strongly condemned the alleged misconduct by Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu during the recent civic election controversy in Sangrur and Dhuri.

Punjab AAP president Aman Arora termed Bittu’s actions as “hooliganism” and accused him of creating unnecessary chaos during the polling process.

Addressing the media, Arora claimed that BJP leader Onkar Singh was allegedly continuing election campaigning even after the official campaigning period had ended, following which the police detained him. He alleged that Ravneet Bittu created a ruckus to secure Onkar Singh’s release and, in the process, violated the law.

Arora further accused the Union minister of disrespecting Punjab Police personnel and women officials during the incident. He added that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would take an appropriate decision regarding action against Bittu.

Targeting the BJP, Aman Arora also alleged that the party indulges in politics based on religion and caste to capture power, adding that such politics would not be tolerated in Punjab.

He further remarked that while Ravneet Bittu frequently criticises Punjab Police, he had allegedly helped his own relative secure a DSP post during the Congress government in violation of norms.

Commenting on the ongoing SIR process in the country, Arora said it should be conducted fairly and transparently. He urged party workers to remain vigilant during the exercise to ensure that voters’ names are not removed illegally from electoral rolls.
