Chandigarh: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, arrested in a disproportionate assets case, has sent a message from jail to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. His lawyer claimed that Majithia said he was “sleeping with his hands under the praise,” indicating he was at peace despite the circumstances.
Majithia was produced before a Mohali court on Friday as his judicial custody ended. The court extended his custody till August 2.
Meanwhile, the Vigilance Department and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducted raids at multiple locations linked to Majithia in Chandigarh and Delhi. The vigilance team also raided a Sainik Farm property in Delhi, which is alleged to be Majithia’s benami property, valued between Rs 150 crore to Rs 200 crore.
A technical team collected evidence during the raids, while investigators are also probing companies linked to Majithia and his family over allegations of diverting drug money.
The raids were conducted based on witness statements in the ongoing investigation. During Friday’s court appearance, information about recoveries made during the raids was expected to be presented.
Security was heightened outside the court due to the possibility of protests by Shiromani Akali Dal leaders. Mohali district Akali president Parvinder Singh Sohana and several others were taken into preventive custody.
Majithia was arrested by Vigilance on June 26 and has been lodged in New Nabha Jail since July 6. Earlier, Vigilance teams had conducted raids at his residence and office in Amritsar and Majitha. The investigation continues.
