Anchorage: Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump met in Alaska late Friday night for a three-hour discussion on the Ukraine war. The two leaders later addressed a joint press conference that lasted just 12 minutes, during which they did not take any questions from journalists.
Trump described the meeting as “very positive,” saying the two sides agreed on many points but no deal was reached. “An agreement will be reached only when it is finalised,” he said, giving the meeting a score of 10 out of 10.
Putin said Russia’s security remained his top priority and proposed that the next round of talks be held in Moscow. Both leaders left the stage immediately after making their remarks.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X that he had a one-and-a-half-hour conversation with Trump. Zelensky said he would travel to Washington D.C. on August 18 to meet the US president. “Ukraine is ready to establish peace with full force,” he added.
