Washington: The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with the support of Indian law enforcement agencies and Interpol, has arrested one of its top 10 most wanted fugitives, Cindy Rodriguez Singh, accused of murdering her six-year-old son.
According to officials, Singh had been hiding in India for the past two years after allegedly killing her son, Noel Alvarez, in Texas. She has now been taken back to the US, where the FBI will hand her over to Texas authorities, Fox News reported.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed Singh’s name on the bureau’s “Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives” list and said she faces charges of murdering a child under the age of 10 and fleeing prosecution.
Patel said Singh misled authorities about her son’s whereabouts in March 2023, even though the child had not been seen since October 2022. Just two days later, she allegedly fled to India and has not returned to the US since.
In October 2023, Singh was indicted in Tarrant County District Court in Fort Worth, Texas, and the following month a federal arrest warrant was issued against her for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Lauding the joint operation, Patel said, “This is the fourth ‘Top 10 Most Wanted’ fugitive arrested in the last seven months.” A reward of up to USD 25,000 had been announced for information leading to Singh’s arrest.
Authorities said Singh has ties to both India and Mexico.
