Bikram Majithia gets relief: Punjab tells High Court custody not needed

Chandigarh: The Punjab government told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that former minister and Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia does not need to be taken into custody in a case registered in Amritsar. Authorities said that if interrogation in his custody is required in the future, a seven-day notice will be given to the investigating agency.

Majithia had approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail after a court in Amritsar earlier rejected his plea.

His lawyers argued that the case is politically motivated and claimed he is being falsely implicated in several cases to push him behind bars.
