Punjab’s vegetarian bodybuilder Varinder Ghumman passes away after two heart attacks in Amritsar hospital

JALANDHAR: Punjab’s renowned vegetarian bodybuilder and Bollywood actor Varinder Singh Ghumman passed away on Thursday following two heart attacks at Fortis Hospital in Amritsar. He had been admitted for a shoulder operation.

A resident of Talwandi village in Gurdaspur, Ghumman was currently living with his family in Model Town, Jalandhar. He was around 40 years old.

Ghumman, known for his impressive physique and vegetarian lifestyle, was a professional bodybuilder and actor. He earned the title of Mr. India in 2008 and had worked alongside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in Tiger 3.

Just six days ago, Ghumman had shared a reflective post on social media, writing, “No one insists on writing in fate. Man thinks of something else and God thinks something else.”

Recently, he had also expressed his desire to contest the Punjab Assembly elections in 2027. In his post, he had sought opinions from his followers on whether he should contest independently or represent a political party.

Ghumman had said that, if elected, he wanted to encourage Punjab’s youth to take up sports and create employment opportunities, adding that the growing interest in sports could help eliminate drug addiction among the younger generation.
