Louvre Museum closed after jewellery theft in Paris

Paris: The Louvre Museum in Paris was closed on Sunday after jewellery was stolen from its premises. France’s Culture Minister Rachida Dati confirmed the incident on X, saying, “There was a theft at the Louvre Museum this morning.”

According to CCTV footage, the thieves arrived between 9:30 am and 9:40 am and used a lift to reach the room where the jewellery was kept.

They escaped on a scooter after committing the theft. Authorities are assessing the value of the stolen items.

The Louvre, one of the most visited museums in the world alongside the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, received around nine million visitors last year.
