Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Key trends in high-profile seats

New Delhi: The counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 is underway, with early trends indicating that the NDA is likely to cross 200 seats out of 243. Several high-profile constituencies are drawing attention.

Raghopur: Tejashwi Yadav leading

RJD’s CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav is leading from Raghopur, while BJP’s Satish Kumar is in second place. Tejashwi’s lead is attributed to his status as Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son and Leader of the Opposition, rather than local dissatisfaction with him. The constituency has about 35% Yadav voters, whose votes were largely united, along with around 5% Muslim support.

Mahua: Tej Pratap Yadav trailing

Tej Pratap Yadav is currently in third place, behind LJP (R)’s Sanjay Kumar Singh and RJD’s Mukesh Kumar Roshan. Analysts said the split in Muslim votes due to AIMIM’s Amit Kumar and independent candidate Asma Parveen, along with resentment toward Mukesh Roshan, weakened Tej Pratap’s chances.

Chhapra: Khesari Lal Yadav trailing

Bhojpuri singer Khesari Lal Yadav is trailing in Chhapra, where NDA’s Chhoti Kumari is leading. Observers noted that despite his popularity, Khesari could not capitalize on it. Lack of rebel votes from BJP’s Rakhi Gupta and local anger over infrastructure issues like broken roads and waterlogging also affected his performance.

Alinagar: Maithili Thakur ahead

BJP’s Maithili Thakur is leading in Alinagar, with RJD’s Vinod Mishra in second place. Her lead comes despite earlier controversy over a viral video; local leaders and BJP national in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan’s apology helped consolidate support. Her popularity and clean image also contributed.

Mokama: Anant Singh wins

JD(U)’s Anant Singh has secured victory in Mokama by 28,206 votes over RJD’s Veena Singh. Analysts said the Yadav vs Bhumihar dynamic following Dular Chand Yadav’s murder, along with support from upper-caste voters and EBCs, helped Anant Singh. The constituency has a mix of Bhumihars (30%), Yadavs (24%), SCs (16.7%), Rajputs (14.3%), and Muslims (2.3%).
