Jalandhar: Ahead of New Year celebrations, Jalandhar Police intensified security arrangements and carried out a large-scale checking drive at the railway station to prevent any untoward incident.
Police teams checked the luggage of passengers arriving and departing from the station and kept a close watch on suspicious activities. Vehicles parked outside the station were stopped, their documents were verified and drivers were questioned. Police also warned of strict action against drunk driving and people moving around without valid documents.
Senior police officers visited the spot late at night to review the security arrangements. The checking drive covered the station area, platforms, parking areas and roads surrounding the railway station.
Officials said that passenger footfall increases significantly during New Year, leaving no room for any lapse in security. Police said all possible steps are being taken to ensure that New Year celebrations remain peaceful and safe.
Citizens have been urged to cooperate during security checks and immediately inform police about any suspicious activity so that law and order is maintained and the New Year can be celebrated in a secure environment. Police clarified that the checking campaign aims to prevent disorder, crime and any unpleasant incident during the New Year period
