Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a gherao of the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.
The protest will be led by Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar and working president Ashwani Sharma, along with other senior party leaders. BJP workers and leaders will assemble at the party’s state office in Sector 37 before taking out a protest march towards the chief minister’s residence.
The gherao was announced earlier by Jakhar, who had also written a letter to the Punjab Director General of Police seeking a probe into recent incidents.
Sharing details, BJP spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliwal said that the law and order situation in Punjab has deteriorated sharply, with killings taking place in public view and an alleged rise in gangster activity.
He said the BJP delegation would seek answers from the chief minister on accountability over the law and order situation, the alleged viral audio of an SSP, and incidents related to the desecration of Guru Sahib.
The party said the protest is aimed at drawing attention to what it described as serious governance failures under the current state government.
