Bomb threat email triggers panic in Ambala; schools evacuated

Ambala: Panic gripped Haryana’s Ambala on Monday after four prominent schools received a threatening email warning of a bomb blast, prompting swift action by police and security agencies.

The email was received at around 8.22 am and warned of an explosion at 2.11 pm. Following the alert, school authorities informed the police, leading to immediate security checks and precautionary measures. Students were sent home as a safety step. No explosion was reported at the scheduled time, officials said.

So far, three schools have confirmed receiving the threat — SA Jain School in Ambala City, Police DAV Riverside in Ambala Cantonment, and Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, located in the military area. Authorities said information about similar emails sent to a few other schools is also being verified.

According to police, the email contained a message claiming a bomb blast would take place at 2.11 pm and urged parents to “save their children”. It also made references to the January 26 programme and included threats related to travel between Haryana and Delhi.

Senior officials said bomb disposal squads and cyber teams were deployed to thoroughly check the premises and trace the origin of the email. “All necessary precautions were taken and there is no cause for panic. The situation is under control,” a police officer said.

An investigation has been launched to identify the sender of the threatening email, while security has been stepped up around educational institutions across the district.
