New Delhi: India defeated Pakistan by 61 runs in a blockbuster T20 World Cup encounter at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
After being put in to bat, India posted 175 for 7 in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan led the charge with a blistering 77 off 40 balls, smashing 10 fours and three sixes to anchor the innings. Captain Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with 31 runs, while Tilak Varma (25) and Rinku Singh’s late cameo ensured India set a challenging 176-run target.
In reply, Pakistan failed to build partnerships and were bowled out well short of the target, handing India a comprehensive 61-run victory. Indian bowlers maintained relentless pressure, striking at regular intervals to derail Pakistan’s chase.
The win strengthens India’s position in the group stage and continues their dominance over Pakistan in recent ICC events. India, champions in 2007 and 2024, once again delivered on the big stage, while Pakistan, the 2009 title winners, were left searching for answers after a one-sided contest.
