Punjab transport minister Laljit Bhullar resigns amid suicide row, probe ordered

Chandigarh: Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has resigned from his post amid controversy linked to the alleged suicide of a senior official of the Punjab Warehousing Corporation.

Sources said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann sought Bhullar’s resignation following mounting pressure after the minister’s name surfaced in connection with the case.

The state government has ordered a probe into the circumstances surrounding the official’s death. According to an official spokesperson, the investigation will examine whether Bhullar had any role in the incident.

The chief minister has made it clear that any form of misconduct or abuse of power will not be tolerated in the government.

The development is being seen as an attempt by the Aam Aadmi Party government to send a strong message that no minister or public representative is above the law in cases involving corruption or misconduct.

Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, officials said. Meanwhile, discussions have intensified over a possible reshuffle in the Punjab cabinet following the resignation.
