PM Modi to hold virtual meet with CMs on March 27 amid Iran crisis; govt denies fuel shortage

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a video conference with chief ministers on March 27 to discuss the evolving situation following the Iran conflict and its potential impact.

Sources said chief ministers of poll-bound states are unlikely to participate in the meeting.

Earlier, addressing the Rajya Sabha on March 24, Modi warned that prolonged conflict involving Iran could have serious consequences, adding that the situation may test the country similar to the Covid-19 period and require coordinated efforts between the Centre and states.

Meanwhile, the government has dismissed reports of fuel shortages across the country. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said India has sufficient reserves of petrol and diesel for up to 60 days.

The ministry termed social media claims about shortages as “propaganda” aimed at triggering panic buying in the market. It also warned of strict action against those spreading rumours.

Officials reiterated that fuel supply remains stable and urged citizens not to believe unverified information.
