US-Iran talks in Islamabad end without breakthrough

Islamabad: High-level talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad ended without any agreement after 24 hours of intense discussions.

US Vice President JD Vance left for Washington following the talks, stating that while the discussions were constructive, Iran refused to accept key American demands.

The US had sought a firm long-term commitment from Iran to not develop nuclear weapons. However, Iranian leadership rejected these conditions, calling them “unnecessary demands.”

Vance warned that failure to reach an agreement would hurt Iran more than the US.

Iran, on the other hand, maintained a strong stance, saying it would not compromise on its national interests. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said their delegation focused on issues such as lifting sanctions and regional security, adding that the success of talks depends on the “goodwill” of the US.

Despite mediation efforts by Pakistan, no breakthrough was achieved, and prospects of an immediate deal appear slim.

For now, the US has placed its “final and best offer” before Iran, with the next move awaited from Tehran.
