New Delhi: Investigation has intensified in the brutal rape and murder case of a 22-year-old woman, daughter of an IRS officer, in Delhi, with police conducting a detailed reconstruction of the crime.
Teams of Delhi Police recreated the scene to understand the sequence of events. The accused, Rahul Meena, a former domestic help at the house, has been arrested from a hotel in Dwarka.
Chilling details emerge
According to investigators, the accused knew the house layout well and entered the study room on the terrace where the victim was present. He allegedly attacked her with a heavy object, sexually assaulted her, and then strangled her to death.
Police said he dragged the body downstairs and attempted to use the victim’s fingers to unlock a biometric locker to steal money.
Key evidence recovered
The victim’s stolen iPhone has been recovered from a nearby park. Police also seized around ₹1 lakh in cash and jewellery from the accused.
Postmortem findings confirmed death by strangulation.
Motive linked to gambling addiction
Investigations revealed that the accused had a gambling and online gaming addiction, having lost nearly ₹7 lakh. Police described him as aggressive and said he showed no remorse during questioning.
He reportedly told investigators that the crime could have been avoided if the victim had given him money.
Further investigation underway
Police have conducted a potency test and are planning a psychological assessment to examine the accused’s mental state. Efforts are also underway to trace his mobile phone, which he allegedly pawned for ₹20,000.
The case has once again raised serious concerns over domestic staff verification and urban security.
