Chandigarh: Amid concerns among Sikhs residing in Uttarakhand and devotees travelling to Sri Hemkund Sahib, a special delegation of ‘Akali Dal Waris Punjab De’ on Sunday departed from Chandigarh for Uttarakhand in a convoy aimed at addressing fears and uncertainty allegedly created by anti-social elements.
The delegation is being jointly led by Tarsem Singh, father of Khadoor Sahib MP Bhai Amritpal Singh, Faridkot MP Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, Manpreet Singh Iyali, Jaito constituency in-charge Bibi Sandeep Kaur Khalsa, Mahavir Singh Dhillon, Bhai Jatin Singh Khalsa and Harjinder Singh, a member of the management committee of Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, Sohana.
According to party leaders, the convoy will travel through various towns and cities along the national highway, where local gurdwara management committees are expected to welcome the delegation and extend support. Large numbers of Sikh devotees are also expected to join the convoy en route.
Sources said several gurdwara committees located along the route to Sri Hemkund Sahib had invited the leadership of Waris Punjab De to visit the region in view of the prevailing situation and concerns being expressed by members of the Sikh community.
The delegation is expected to interact with local residents, community leaders and pilgrims during its visit and assess the ground situation. Party leaders said the purpose of the visit is to reassure devotees and strengthen confidence among Sikhs travelling to and residing in Uttarakhand.
The development comes amid growing discussions over recent incidents and concerns related to the safety and well-being of Sikh pilgrims visiting the hill state during the ongoing pilgrimage season.
