New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday intensified its protest against the arrest of Punjab cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), with party workers staging demonstrations outside BJP offices across the state.
AAP workers raised slogans against the BJP and accused the party of misusing central investigative agencies ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
AAP alleges misuse of ED for political pressure
Party leaders claimed that whenever the BJP contests elections in any state, central agencies are allegedly used on a large scale to target opposition leaders and suppress dissent.
According to AAP leaders, a similar strategy is now being implemented in Punjab.
They pointed out that ED raids had been conducted at Sanjeev Arora’s premises for the third time within a year and alleged that his arrest was politically motivated rather than based on any genuine investigation.
‘Arrest linked to refusal to join BJP’
AAP leaders further alleged that pressure was being exerted on Arora to join the BJP and claimed that the raids intensified after he refused to do so.
“The arrest is not about investigation but political vendetta,” party leaders said during the protests.
They also asserted that the people of Punjab would not be intimidated by such tactics and would give a “befitting reply” to the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.
