Jalandhar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin has said that any decision regarding a possible alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) or any other Akali faction will be taken at an appropriate time, adding that the moment for such a decision has not yet arrived.
Responding to a question during a media conclave in Jalandhar as part of his recent Punjab visit, Nabin said certain issues are “in the womb of time” and will be resolved when the appropriate time comes.
“Some issues are in the womb of time and will be resolved when the time comes,” he said while responding to speculation about a potential electoral understanding between the BJP and the Akali leadership ahead of the next Assembly elections.
Nabin reiterated that the BJP’s immediate focus is on strengthening its organisational structure across all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab. He said the party is currently concentrating on expanding its grassroots presence and preparing independently for future political challenges.
“At present, we are moving in that direction. As elections draw closer and circumstances evolve, we will assess the situation and take a decision based on that assessment. Today, we are neither in favour of an alliance nor against one,” he said.
The BJP leader stressed that the party has, for now, decided to move forward on its own strength. According to him, the next six months will be crucial for building a stronger political base in the state.
“We want to move forward on the strength of our own organisation. Over the next six months, we will work to strengthen our foundation, raise issues concerning every section of society and take our agenda directly to the people. As far as an alliance is concerned, there is still ample time to decide. This is not the time to evaluate that issue. Let the time come,” Nabin added.
His remarks come amid continued speculation over a possible revival of ties between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal, former allies who parted ways in 2020 over the contentious farm laws.
