Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police has achieved a major breakthrough in the high-profile Sector 11 medical store murder case with the arrest of two accused, identified as Aryan and Sunny Mehra, in a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The arrests are linked to the June 13 shooting at Shri Kumar Medical Hall in Sector 11, where 45-year-old cashier Janki Das was shot dead in broad daylight.
According to police sources, a third accused, believed to be the main shooter, remains on the run. Investigators allege that the suspect fired around 13 rounds from a sophisticated firearm during the attack. The weapon used in the crime has not yet been recovered.
Police tracked the suspects after an intensive three-day search operation. The accused were eventually located and apprehended in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior officials said the arrested suspects are expected to be brought to Chandigarh on Wednesday. Police will seek their custodial remand to further investigate the conspiracy, identify additional links and trace the absconding shooter.
The murder, which was captured on CCTV cameras, had triggered concern across the city and intensified scrutiny over rising incidents of violent crime in the Tricity region. Investigators are continuing efforts to arrest the remaining accused and recover the weapon used in the attack.
