Amritsar: An Additional District and Sessions Court on Monday granted bail to senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia, along with his associates Jodh Singh Samra and Jatinder Pal Singh, in a case registered following an alleged confrontation at Majitha police station.
Earlier, Majithia’s legal adviser, advocate Bikramjit Singh Bath, who was also named in the FIR, was discharged from the case after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) informed the court that his custodial presence was not required for the investigation.
Bath, a practicing lawyer, had accompanied Majithia to obtain a copy of an FIR registered against Shiromani Akali Dal supporter Jobanpreet Singh. According to the investigation, he was present in his professional capacity as legal counsel.
His inclusion in the FIR had triggered protests by members of the Amritsar Bar Association, who alleged that lawyers were being unfairly targeted. Following the objections, senior authorities constituted an SIT to examine the matter.
After reviewing the case, the SIT concluded that Bath had no involvement in the alleged incident, leading to his discharge from the proceedings. The court subsequently granted bail to Majithia and the two co-accused while further proceedings in the case continue.
