Keval Singh Dhillon likely to be next Punjab BJP chief

Chandigarh: Former Barnala MLA Keval Singh Dhillon, considered a close associate of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, is set to become the new president of the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to highly placed sources.

Sources told media that Dhillon’s name has been finalised and an official announcement is expected soon. The development comes as the three-year tenure of current Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar is scheduled to end in July.

Party insiders said Jakhar will continue to play a key role in leading the BJP’s campaign strategy for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh, who represents Punjab in the party’s national leadership, has reportedly been advocating for a Sikh face to head the state unit.

The move is being viewed as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to strengthen its outreach among Sikh voters in Punjab, where the party has traditionally maintained a predominantly Hindu support base and leadership structure.
