Chandigarh: Punjab Police has transferred Tanda SHO Gurinderjit Singh Nagar after the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) named a Punjab Police officer in an alleged extortion case linked to an international organised crime syndicate.
Following the allegations, the Hoshiarpur SSP transferred Gurinderjit Singh Nagar from Police Station Tanda to the Police Lines, Hoshiarpur. The transfer came after the officer’s name surfaced widely on social media in connection with the FBI case.
Punjab Police has also ordered a departmental inquiry into the matter. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Jalandhar Range, has assigned the investigation to the Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Jalandhar Rural.
According to senior police officials, the inquiry will examine the allegations mentioned in the FBI investigation and verify the facts. Further legal and departmental action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
The FBI had recently alleged in a US federal indictment that a Punjab Police officer assisted members of an organised crime syndicate in extortion and fabricating criminal cases. Punjab Police has initiated its own investigation to examine the allegations independently.
