Chandigarh: Protests being staged by Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, ministers and workers across Punjab against recent ED raids escalated into a confrontation in Balachaur, located in Nawanshahr district.
The incident involved Banga MLA Dr Sukhwinder Sukhi and BJP district president Rajvinder Lucky, who got into a heated argument during the protest.
BJP leader says MLA tried to snatch phone
According to Rajvinder Lucky, he was live-streaming the AAP protest on his mobile phone when the confrontation took place, resulting in the entire incident being captured on video.
Lucky claimed that around 11 am, AAP workers along with MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi arrived outside the BJP office.
“I even offered them water and told them we had arranged tea and refreshments expecting more protesters. I asked them to hold the protest peacefully,” Lucky said.
Argument escalated inside BJP office
Lucky alleged that AAP workers later entered the BJP office premises and picked up a microphone and speaker kept there.
“I told them they were already known as trolley thieves and now they were taking away microphones and speakers too,” he claimed.
He said that after he went inside and started a live video, AAP workers approached his chair and allegedly tried to snatch his mobile phone.
Lucky further alleged that MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi tried to assert pressure during the confrontation and warned him by saying, “We will deal with you.”
The incident comes amid intensifying political tensions in Punjab following the arrest of cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
