Punjab ASI suspended after confrontation with AAP MLA Hardip Singh Dimpy Dhillon at Mohali police checkpoint

Chandigarh: A Punjab Police ASI was suspended after a confrontation with Hardip Singh Dimpy Dhillon at a police checkpoint in Mohali over the use of a blinker light on the MLA’s vehicle.

According to officials, the incident took place on Friday when the MLA was travelling with his family to Chandigarh for dinner.

Dhillon accused the ASI of misusing his authority and later lodged a complaint with Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans. Following the complaint, the ASI was suspended on Saturday.

MLA releases video explaining incident

Late Saturday night, the MLA released a video presenting his version of events.

Dhillon said he was travelling with his wife and driver when police personnel from Phase-8 police station stopped the vehicle at a checkpoint. ASI Lakhbir Singh was reportedly deployed at the naka.

According to the MLA, the officer questioned the driver regarding the blinker light installed on the vehicle.

“The driver informed the ASI that a sitting MLA was travelling in the car and that the vehicle was registered with the Assembly,” Dhillon said.

ASI asked for identity verification

The MLA further stated that the ASI then asked for identification proof.

“When the driver started showing my ID card on the mobile phone, the ASI told a constable standing nearby to verify it. He said if he is a sitting MLA, then let him go, otherwise issue a challan,” Dhillon alleged.

The incident has sparked political discussion in Punjab, with opposition parties questioning the suspension while AAP leaders have defended the MLA’s complaint.
