Mansa: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday visited Punjab and met the family of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta, who was allegedly murdered for opposing drug trafficking.
Before reaching Mansa, Shah met the family of Gulzar Singh in Toor Banjara village in Sangrur district. Gulzar allegedly died by suicide after his family claimed he was harassed for questioning AAP minister Harpal Singh Cheema about drug supply in the area.
During the meeting, Shah reportedly assured Gulzar’s family that they would get justice within two to three months. He also said he would attend Gulzar’s bhog, the Sikh religious prayer ceremony held after a death.
Shah’s visit comes amid growing protests in Punjab over Jhotta’s killing and demands for an impartial investigation into cases involving people who raised their voices against drugs.
