Punjab E News( PEN News): The government has asked Air India to fix accountability and take strict corrective action following the serious incident involving Air India flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi on August 4, 2026.
The Airbus A320, registered as VT-EXO, reportedly experienced severe turbulence and a sudden loss of around 300 feet in altitude while flying over Odisha. Several passengers and crew members were reportedly injured during the incident.
Air India AI2379 Maintenance Report Flags Technical Warnings
A reported post-flight maintenance report for AI2379 has highlighted several technical warnings recorded during the Phuket-Delhi journey.
The report reportedly lists repeated low-pressure alerts in the aircraft’s green, blue and yellow hydraulic systems, along with low fluid-level indications in the yellow and blue hydraulic reservoirs.
The aircraft’s autopilot reportedly disconnected twice during the flight. Other warnings reportedly involved the left and right elevator flight controls, engine anti-ice systems and indications related to the forward and rear emergency exit doors.
The reported failure messages also flagged issues involving the hydraulic system, an elevator computer and high-pressure indications associated with the nose landing gear door and engine anti-ice valve system.
DGCA and AAIB Investigating Air India Flight Incident
Air India initially attributed the incident to turbulence. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) are investigating the incident, which is being treated as a serious aviation occurrence.
However, the reported maintenance document by itself does not establish whether the hydraulic and flight-control warnings were directly responsible for the sudden loss of altitude or whether there was an actual loss of hydraulic pressure or fluid.
Investigators are examining the sequence of events, aircraft system data and actions taken by the flight crew to determine the exact cause of the incident.
20 Passengers and 4 Crew Members Reportedly Injured
According to reports, Air India flight AI2379 was carrying 137 passengers, including three children, and eight crew members, comprising two pilots and six cabin crew members.
Around 20 passengers and four cabin crew members were reportedly injured during the incident.
The aircraft subsequently stabilised and landed safely in Delhi.
Government Monitoring Air India Flight Safety
The Civil Aviation Ministry is closely monitoring the situation with senior officials. Air India has maintained that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain its top priority and that the airline is cooperating with the authorities investigating the incident.
The final findings of the AAIB investigation are expected to establish whether the technical warnings recorded after the flight had any connection with the sudden altitude loss.
