Spain: Barcelona has recorded its hottest June since weather data collection began over a century ago, Spain’s National Weather Service said.

The Cane Fabra Observatory, located on a hill above Barcelona, recorded an average temperature of 26 degrees Celsius in June, breaking the previous record of 25.6 degrees Celsius set in 2003. Weather officials said a one-day high of 37.9 degrees Celsius was recorded on June 30.

Located between the hills and the Mediterranean in northeastern Spain, Barcelona generally avoids the worst of the country’s heat.

However, much of Spain is currently in the grip of the season’s first major summer heatwave.
