Amritsar: The Akal Takht has taken strong note of the alleged violation of religious decorum during a government-organised event in Srinagar commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.
Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, on Friday said Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains and Jaswant Singh, Director of the Punjab Government’s Language Department, have been summoned to appear before the Panj Singh Sahiban on August 1 to explain their conduct.
Giani Gargaj said the summon comes in response to widespread outrage among the Sikh sangat over the way the event was conducted. “Despite the passage of time, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains and Director Jaswant Singh have neither clarified their stand nor apologised for hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community,” he said.
The event, organised by the Punjab government’s Language Department in Srinagar, has drawn criticism from Sikh bodies, including the SGPC, for allegedly disrespecting the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.
