Karan Aujla’s song ‘MF Gabru’ faces backlash over vulgar content; complaints filed in Ludhiana, Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Punjabi singer Karan Aujla’s latest track MF Gabru has triggered controversy, with multiple complaints filed against the song in Ludhiana and Chandigarh over its allegedly vulgar content and perceived attack on Punjabi culture.

Dr Panditrao Dharenawar, an activist based in Sector-41B, Chandigarh, filed formal complaints in both cities, claiming the lyrics contain obscene language that could negatively influence children and young adults.

“Karan Aujla’s song is against our culture. The vulgar words present in it can pollute the minds of children and youth. That’s why it is necessary to ban such songs,” said Dharenawar.

According to reports, a total of three complaints have been filed—two in Ludhiana and one in Chandigarh. One of the complaints also targets village sarpanch Lakhbir Singh, alleging that the video was shot in his village and he granted permission for the shoot. The complainants have demanded action against the sarpanch.

MF Gabru was released on August 1 on Karan Aujla’s official YouTube channel and has already garnered over 9 million views. The video was shot in Aujla’s ancestral village in Ludhiana. Despite the backlash, the song continues to trend on social media.
