AMRITSAR: The Voice of Amritsar (VOA) has once again extended support to people affected by the recent floods in Punjab, this time in collaboration with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s Meera Foundation.
The foundation, widely recognised for its work in rehabilitating acid attack survivors, will now provide relief to around 500 flood-hit families in Punjab. Under the project prepared by VOA, families living in villages along the banks of the Ravi river will receive bedding, mattresses, gas stoves, fans, water purification machines, clothes and other essential household items.
According to VOA, these families have lost their homes, belongings and sources of livelihood in the floods. The initiative aims to help them regain self-reliance and ensure basic survival needs are met.
Earlier, VOA had partnered with doctors from AIIMS, New Delhi to conduct medical camps in flood-affected areas. The camps, held at Gurudwara Baba Budha Sahib in Ramdas, village Machhiwara and village Ghanwala, offered free health check-ups, medicines and counselling. Thousands benefitted from timely treatment at these camps.
Bollywood comedian Kapil Sharma and Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi also supported the relief work, extending assistance to the affected families alongside the doctors.
