Deputy Commissioner Inspects Repair Work on Road Near Khanda Chowk

Strict instructions issued to remove public inconvenience; action to follow if work is delayed

Patiala News (September 17): Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav today inspected the repair work on the road near Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib and Khanda Chowk, which had been dug up for the 24×7 canal water supply project. During the visit, she directed L&T Project Officer Sukhdev Jha and officials of the Water Supply & Sewerage Board to expedite the tiling work and immediately relieve the inconvenience being faced by residents and commuters.

Dr. Preeti Yadav stated that while the laying of two major water pipelines in the area has been completed and traffic movement has resumed, the tiling of the dug-up stretch is still pending, causing hardship to the public. She warned that if the work is not completed promptly, responsibility will rest with the concerned officers. She further instructed that the remaining tasks should be completed on a war footing, working round the clock if necessary.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Patiala District Administration is committed to addressing citizens’ concerns and ensuring uninterrupted 24×7 canal water supply to city residents. She also directed the Traffic Police, Public Works Department, Municipal Corporation, L&T Company and the Water Supply Department to make adequate arrangements for smooth traffic flow around Jail Road, Sirhind Road and Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib. With the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji approaching in November, she said, special attention must be paid to facilitate devotees and drivers in this busy corridor.

Dr. Preeti Yadav added that the Public Works Department has already floated tenders for road restoration and stressed that while pipelines were essential for a long-term water solution, citizens must not continue to suffer due to delays in surface repairs.

Municipal Corporation SE Rajinder Chopra, PWD Executive Engineer Piyush Agarwal, Water Supply & Sewerage Board SDO Anish Kumar and other officials accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the inspection.
