PUNJAB VIDHAN SABHA PASSES “REHABILITATION OF PUNJAB” RESOLUTION DEMANDING ₹20K-Cr PACKAGE FROM CENTRE

— Passed resolution will now be formally sent to the Central Government, urging immediate action to aid Punjab’s recovery

Chandigarh, September 29:

The Punjab Vidhan Sabha, on the concluding day of its special session, passed the “Rehabilitation of Punjab” resolution. The resolution was introduced by Water Resources Minister Mr. Barinder Kumar Goyal, on the first day of the session on Friday, demanding a special package of Rs 20,000 crore from the Central Government for comprehensive flood relief and infrastructure restoration.

The resolution was passed following an extensive two-day discussion, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Cabinet ministers, and MLAs from the treasury benches actively participating.

The passed resolution will now be formally sent to the Central Government, urging immediate and compassionate action to aid Punjab’s recovery.

On Monday, the discussion was initiated by the Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, after which Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann delivered a speech supporting the resolution. Contributions from Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal, MLA Gurdeep Singh Randhawa, and MLA Gurpreet Singh Banamali further underscored the state’s collective demand.

The resolution condemns the Union Government’s “step-motherly” approach and deems the Prime Minister’s previously announced relief as “grossly inadequate.” It highlights the unprecedented scale of devastation, with initial losses estimated at Rs 13,900 crore, and criticises the failures of central agencies including Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) for worsening the flood situation.
