PANCHKULA: Aqeel, son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and former minister Razia Sultana, died of a medicine overdose on Friday morning in Haryana’s Panchkula.
According to police sources, the 35-year-old reportedly consumed an excessive dose of medicine, leading to his death. His body was brought to the government hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, where a postmortem was conducted on Friday morning.
After the autopsy, the body was taken to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, where the cremation will take place. Family members said Aqeel was married and is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
Aqeel’s father, Mohammad Mustafa, retired as Punjab DGP in 2021 and later became active in the Congress party. He is known to be a close aide of former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Family members said Mustafa left for his native village in Harda, Saharanpur district, early in the morning to make arrangements for the last rites. Two of Aqeel’s relatives accompanied the body in an ambulance after the postmortem.
